Introductory Practice Sessions
Purpose
The purpose of these offerings is:
- to get a taste of the project, to see if getting involved is for you.
- to solidify a practice toolkit that is an important foundation of our work
- to be able to be attended by people who have never done AR before
- to practice (always!)
Description
What can you expect from the introductory practices? The sessions are typically 3 to 15 people, and the facilitator is one of the project's participants, and who has already had a fair bit of practice. Our style of offering these groups typically have these features:
- these are not seminars, the facilitator's primary role is to make a space for people to practice
- we typically start with a short grounding or breathwork exercise, followed by introducing a theme
- in the bulk of the call, the group is split into dyads typically, to practice, using sentence stems as a strong structure.
- the essence of dyad work is deep listening without fixing or explaining, and gently and progressively leaning into sharing whats really alive for you.
- after the breakout pair work, there is typically a group harvest, and where we get to celebrate our progress, and the facilitator models reflection and validation.
This kind of practice, works very subtly on our emotional experience. It might actually be the first time we've been really truly heard all week, and the experience tends to be somatically satisfying in a magical kind of way. It seems, ever so quietly, to start to restructure and integrate all those previous times when we were not heard. That's why the structure is so important. It's a bit like a plaster cast on a fractured arm.
When and where
The one hour long intro practices are free of charge, and run on a rotating basis, at varying times. Our invitation to you is to attend each of the 5 sessions, in which ever order suits you. Once you have all 5, and you find yourself gravitating towards the work, then we warmly invite you to explore becoming a participant. So that you can really bite into the practices as a personal development path.
The sessions are held using zoom, and you will find them under 'Schedule' in the main nav above. Good luck with the times and timezones, time can be a challenging master. As the project grows we aspire to offer the sessions at a broader range of times. It's very early days for us, and hope you will bear with us in the mean time.
We ask that you read the practice guidelines before attending.
